Texas Instruments has announced two new 1394 link layer and integrated physical layer devices for digitally interfacing advanced video applications. The ICs support the latest requirements from the Digital Transport Licensing Authority (DTLA), including localization for DTCP-encrypted premium content. The TSB43EC42 and the TSB43EA42 provide security and Quality of Service (QoS) for home networking in set top boxes, digital televisions, and Blu-ray recorders.
Extending TI's 1394 CE family, the TSB43EC42 and TSB43EA42 enable tru2way set top boxes and digital televisions to record in high definition. The TSB43EC42 adds AES-128 encryption to the transport stream interface, which provides very robust protection by keeping content encrypted at all times. This eliminates the need for additional physical content protection on the PCB and can simplify board layout.
Both the TSB43EC42 and TSB43EA42 two-port PHYs operate at 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps or 400 Mbps and are fully compliant with the IEEE 1394-1995 and IEEE 1394a-2000. www.ti.com

Machine Vision
Adlink Technology announced the PCIe-FIW64, its first 4-CH PCI Express IEEE1394b frame grabber designed specifically for digital and high-speed computer-based machine vision applications. The PCIe-FIW64 provides four IEEE 1394b (FireWire 800) ports for multiple IEEE 1394b cameras and supports total data transfer rates up to 3.2Gbps. It is also designed for multi-channel applications that require external I/O signals and triggering options. The PCIe-FIW64 supports 'power over cable', which allows 1394b-based cameras to draw power directly through the board. LEDs are located on the front panel to conveniently display the connection status of each channel. Four isolated digital I/Os and four isolated programmable triggers are provided - the digital I/Os can connect to external devices like position sensors, and the programmable trigger output pulses can be used to manage trigger events such as activating strobe lighting.
