Updated, Upgraded Mac Minis Move to 1394b
Apple on March 3 officially launched the updated Mac Mini, featuring new configurations featuring 1394b, although the prices remain the same. Prices start at $599 for the low-end model, which features a new 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 120GB hard drive, larger than prior models. The $799 step-up model has 2GB of RAM and the same 2GHz Core 2 Duo chip, but with a larger 320GB hard drive.

An Nvidia MCP79 chipset drives both new Mac Minis. Along with 1394b (also known as FireWire 800), there are Ethernet, Mini DVI, and Mini DisplayPort connections. Mini DisplayPort is a feature of only Apple systems and monitors, but that could change as Apple has offered the spec to VESA for incorporation into its official DisplayPort standard. http://www.apple.com/macmini/ |
