Trade Association Sets Call for New, Innovative 1394b Connectors

The Trade Association has established a new technical objective and challenge: create innovative, cost-competitive new 1394 I/O connectors to enable new applications of FireWire, including miniature-powered 1394b products and stacked 1394b connectors.

A new miniature 1394b connector should be capable of S3200 (3.2 Gigabit/second) speeds and provide the same or similar power as standard short haul 1394b cable.  It should be able to serve 4.5 meter cables, minimum, and follow a form factor similar in size to a mini-USB I/O connector. Pricing should be competitive, also.

Company representatives are welcomed to bring their concepts, questions or ideas to the third quarter meeting at Fujitsu Semiconductor in Sunnyvale.  The Cable and Connector working group meeting is scheduled for Wed. July 13.

For more details, contact Max Bassler, Cable and Connector chair, at mbassler@interacttech.net or view the presentation from the Cables and Connectors Working Group.
