1394 TA Brings Back Long-Time TA Member Les Baxter to Complete Review of 1394-2008, Issue New IEEE Specification

The TA has brought Les Baxter, a long time member of the association, in to complete a full review of the 1394 standard and issue a new specification document in conformance with IEEE requirements.

The IEEE requires that specifications be maintained and kept current, and it has now been four years since the completion of the 1394-2008 FireWire standard.  Over the coming 12 months Les will review the standard and update all errata to conform to typical practice and issue the document sometime by the start of the third calendar quarter of 2013.

The errata project consists of two stages.  “First, we will finalize all the changes to IEEE 1394-2008 and issue a TA errata document,” explained Baxter.  “This will include correcting a few errors and discrepancies in 1394-2008, adding new material as well as enhancing and clarifying the S1600 and S3200 specifications.  After the TA errata document is finished, we will issue a new IEEE specification incorporating the changes.”

“The TA’s board of directors is very grateful to Les for taking on this important task, and we look forward to helping him in whatever way we can,” said Max Bassler, 1394TA chairman. “His work with the TA over the years has been indispensable, and no one is better equipped and competent to complete the errata document.”
