1394 TRADE ASSOCIATION PRESS RELEASENew Technical Backgrounder from 1394 Trade Association Describes the Benefits of FireWire in Professional and Pro-Amateur Audio Applications -- Includes Live Session and Post Production Scenarios, Compares FireWire’s Features with Other Standards -- San Francisco, May 25, 2011 -- The 1394 Trade Association has issued a comprehensive new technical backgrounder describing the benefits of the FireWire standard in professional and pro-amateur audio applications. The new backgrounder was developed by Morten Lave, chief executive officer of TC Applied Technologies, and is entitled “Digital Audio Relies on the Features and Benefits of IEEE 1394.” It has been published by Electronic Engineering Times. The article details the requirements of professional audio systems and describes FireWire’s attributes and benefits, with outlines of typical live session and post-production scenarios. It details the reasons that FireWire performs optimally in pro audio applications, and compares 1394 with other options, such as Ethernet and USB. “FireWire has proven itself as the absolute best interface for professional audio applications because it delivers the bandwidth needed to move audio streams in real time along with the timing and synchronization capabilities that allow mixing of multiple audio channels,” said Lave. "As a result, it is widely used by all of the leading equipment designers including Presonus, M-Audio, Focusrite, Mackie, Alesis, and many others.” The backgrounder is available on the 1394 Trade Association website The 1394 Trade Association is a worldwide organization dedicated to the advancement of the IEEE 1394 standard. By the end of 2010, more than 2 billion FireWire ports had shipped on a wide range of computing, consumer electronics, industrial, storage and other systems.
