1394 TRADE ASSOCIATION PRESS RELEASE

FireWire Prominent at Annual VISION Conference in Germany, Led by Innovative New 3.2 Gigabit/second SoC Solution from DapTechnology

IEEE1394 Extends Leadership in High End Vision Systems with Breakthrough Speeds and Bandwidth

San Francisco, Calif., Nov. 22, 2011 — FireWire, which has become one of the leading interface choices for vision systems and camera products, was on full display again this year at the VISION 2011 Conference in Stuttgart, Germany, Nov. 8-10.

FireWire-equipped product demonstrations were led this year by DapTechnology, a leading supplier of advanced IEEE 1394 protocol analyzers and solutions, which showed a prototype version of the world’s first high speed 3.2 Gigabit 1394b FireWire System On Chip solution. The Dap demonstration showed data being transferred between the local file systems of two personal computers via a high speed IEEE 1394b S3200 connection. The setup featured DapTechnology’s S3200 HAC Host Reference Adapters installed within each PC and connected via copper cabling transmitting data at S3200. Additionally, a FireSpy 3200 analyzer was connected to the system to monitor and record activity on the S3200 connection, while a user interface showed the data rates achieved and summarize other transmission attributes.

Along with the impressive DapTechnology demonstration, industry leaders from around the world featured 1394-enabled vision systems and camera products in their booths, including Hamamatsu, Hitachi, Newnex, Allied Vision Systems, Toshiba Teli, Sony Corporation, Comoss, Point Grey, Unibrain, OBE, Polytec, Intercon 1, IOI, JenCam, MaxxVision, AOS Technologies, AlysiumTech, Carl Zeiss Inc., PHYTEC, Sirius Advanced Cybernetics (SAC), Baumer, Rauscher, New Electronics Technology (NET), Components Express, Consultant Team Machine Vision (CTMV), Stemmer, Basler, NeuroCheck, The Image Source,  ISW, FRAMOS, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, and SDT Dr. Seitner.

“FireWire continues to enable the most innovative and exciting vision systems,” said Richard Mourn of DapTechnology, who attended the conference and supported the 1394 Trade Association’s presence. “We expect several leading companies to implement the higher speeds and bandwidths provided by DapTechnology for advanced vision systems and applications.”
