Astek Corporation has released a Quantum Parametrics-branded High Speed Interconnect Tester (QP-HSIT). The QP-HSIT is designed to enable at speed testing of cables, slip-rings, backplanes and other interconnect technologies. 
Through its eight generic DC, low speed (150Mb/s to 1.6Gb/s), and high speed (600Mb/s to 6.5Gb/s) channels, various technologies can be tested including but not limited to: USB 2.0, USB 3.0, IEEE-1394, PCIe, DisplayPort, and SAS/SATA. The generic channels connect to the interconnect under test through technology specific Connector Saver Modules. The QP-HSIT was designed to be both a simple production tester and an engineering validation tool. When the Windows PC based HSIT application starts, it prepares the QP-HSIT(s) to be ready for immediate testing using the attached Connector Saver Module information. Once an interconnect (cable) is attached, the user simply presses the Loaded button. This tells the HSIT application that the cable is loaded and is ready for testing. The Testing LED blinks red during testing to indicate a test is in process. When a test completes, the Testing LED turns off and the Pass/Fail LED indicates the verdict (green is Pass and red is Fail). Result details for each test are recorded to a log file by the HSIT application for later diagnosis. Initial production of the QP-HSIT begins in May 2011 with full production in June. IOI’s FW-PCIE1X20 is a 3 port FireWire (IEEE 1394a) to PCI Express Host Adapter.  The FW-PCIE1X20 combines an OHCI (Open Host Controller Interface) and a high-performance, standards-compliant PCI Express 1.1 host system interface to provide S400 1394a-2000 compliant throughput in a small PCB (Printed Circuit Board) and low power dissipation. Multiple VCs (Virtual Channels) on the PCI Express link provide native support for QoS (Quality of Service) transmission for real-time and multimedia applications in a standards-based framework, ensuring compatibility with current and future operating systems. Active-state power management allows dynamic power management during periods of reduced network activity.
Hamamatsu has introduced its new C11440-50B board level camera for OEM scientific and industrial customers, featuring a scientific CMOS sensor. The camera is designed to deliver high performance and cost-effective imaging in a small format.
This scientific CMOS camera is ideal for a wide variety of scientific and industrial applications including semiconductor inspection, failure analysis, x-ray scintillator readout, fluorescence microscopy and high speed / high resolution imaging. The new C11440-50B delivers 45 frames / sec at the full resolution of 1920 x 1440 pixels (3.63 x 3.63 micron) and a wide dynamic range of 4500:1. These features allow the capture of high quality images at fast speeds, even in low light conditions. Price on request.
EqcoLogic’s new EQCO-FW7501 and EQCO-FW5001 are two different extender solutions for FireWire over coaxial cable, operating with 75Ω and 50Ω coax cable respectively. Each unit contains a 1394b transceiver (EQCO875SC or EQCO850SC) that can transmit up to S800 speeds (1.0Gbit/s) fully duplex over a single coax cable; the transceiver  includes an adaptive equalizer that supports cable lengths up to 60 meters.
1394b over coax dongles are ideal for simple and easy implementation of long-haul connections. Due to the secure shielding of coaxial cable, EqcoLogic’s 1394b dongles can be used within electrically noisy environments such as factories. The EQCO-FW7501 supports up to 60 meters of 75Ω coaxial cable; the EQCO-FW5001 supports up to 30m of 50Ω coaxial cable. In both cases, the range is specified at a data-rate of 1.0Gbit/s (S800). The dongles have a standard 1394b 9-pin connector on one end and a 75Ω BNC or 50Ω SMA connector on the opposite end.
The dongles are ideal for laboratory and Industrial applications, such as Machine Vision and Factory Automation, where robust cable cabling is required. They can also be used with high flex small diameter coaxial cable with rotating joints, if necessary, for applications where multiple rotations are required. Point Grey announced the release to production of its new 2 megapixel Flea3 IEEE 1394b  camera models. The next-generation Flea3 models incorporate an 800 Mbit/s 1394b interface and are based on mono and color versions of the 2.0 MP, 1/1.8-inch Sony® ICX274 CCD. Running at 15 FPS at 1624x1224 resolution, these models complement Point Grey's existing line of Flea3 FireWire cameras introduced last year. All Flea3 cameras measure just 29 x 29 x 30 mm, and offer new features such as opto-isolated GPIO for industrial triggering and strobe output, non-volatile flash memory for user data storage, and on-camera frame buffer.
